Badges

In this lesson we were told to go on to moodle and look at that step by step instructions on how to make a badge so we did and we mainly used tools like the ellipse tool of course and just the bevel and text tool. I also wanted a rainbow badge so i went on to YouTube and followed a step by step tutorial on how to make a rainbow template colour and ended up creating that one that you can see above and on the far right.

Evaluation

For this project we were asked to come up with our own 8 bit game and we had to choose from these three story lines. I picked the bottom one that you can see on the picture below where trees and plants can talk and the aim is to bring the evil corporation down while playing as a mammal.
So we were basically asked to think up of the story line for the game, create our own characters from scratch and to design our own backgrounds for our games, basically designing EVERYTHING that we need but not yet actually making it come alive. We also had to incorporate a secret into the game but ill come to that later on.

I did a lot of secondary research of games like Mario, Sonic, Pokemon and Pac-Man. In this research i found that even the simplest game can be a worldwide success and it doesn't need to be all high definition graphics etc.

My pre-production for this was pretty decent. I came up with the whole story for this game while i was having a shave at home but i added and subtracted parts at college to make it better. It also helped that we did research tasks on apps and game Easter eggs and was taught how to create business cards and badges etc.

My actual designing went pretty decent really, i had an idea and i followed it through. There were no mess ups where id accidentally deleted my work or anything but i used a load of tools on Photoshop! I also designed a cool explosion on illustrator then pasted it onto my Photoshop work. I used tools like the text and shape tools and coloring. These were massive in my game making as everything has to come from you so imagination and the shape/colour tools are key, I also used the duplicate tool for when i needed to make a lot of one object like the fire in the game or the background of the second part of the game which probably took the longest time to do to be honest but seeing the end product is worth it. I used the pen tool to draw my clouds in the game and other things and I also used the paint bucket tool to fill in colors, on a few other shapes I used the bevel and drop shadow feature which you can open by simply double clicking on your layer which came in handy for making certain objects stand out more. I actually learnt myself hoe to create my own rainbow template for objects by going on to YouTube and following the step by step tutorials someone showed me on creating my own rainbow template and then i added it on to the rainbow collectible balls and just faded red into black for the evil ones that you die if you run into. Finally I went on to illustrator and designed the "Kaboom" that goes off when you defeat the evil corporation and but then pasted that into Photoshop. All these skills that I have acquired throughout lesson have helped me to design a really cool game.

The age rating for this game would be something like a 3+ because it has no violence, blood or swearing. My inspiration for this was like a Pac-Man/Sonic/Mario type of simple yet addicting game that you play. Here are the pictures below for you to see of my game.

Overall I would say that my assignment meets the criteria and I am happy with it. If i could change something or do one thing differently then it would be the colour scheme of my designs as I think some of the colours that I have chosen clash with each other a bit too much.

Plan for game

My idea is about a Wizard running along a platform, eating rainbow coloured balls as they come at at him, you have to press a button to open his mouth to eat them and if you don't press the button you don't score a point, there will also be red balls coming towards you and you have to jump over these or you die. You have 3 lives. If you get a streak of 30 rainbow balls the evil corporation running the whole world and spewing out these evil red balls to stop you, collapses and you win the game, however you can still keep going and aim for the cool costume. You will also have the option to choose a "Mr. Monkey" as a character and the same rules apply with the 30 streak. When you get to a 60 streak that's when you get the cool rainbow coloured costume for the wizard and monkey.

Here is the characters i have designed on Photoshop for you to see what they will look like:

The first image you see above is at the start of the game, your character will run to the tree and the tree (and sun) will give you tips on how to play the game and how it works. The second image is just more of the game that you run through and the pillars are part of the background (you cannot interact with them).

This is the evil company that is spawning the evil balls. When you jump on top of the red button the building explodes and you win the game. You still get to play-on though collecting rainbows if you'd like. Heres a picture of the "kaboom" that i created in illustrator that will go over the building when you jump on the button for it to explode.

Business cards

In this lesson we were shown how to make business cards and then to go and create our own personalized business cards ourselves. These business cards can be anything so the first on i created was a business card for a barbers shop as you can see on the left. The second one that i created was for an automobile garage and the reason these have 2 sides is that the rectangles down the left hand side are the front pages of the business cards and the ones next to them are the back pages for it, The third business card i created was for kids parties so i changed the colour to yellow using the bucket tool then googled and clown and balloons then used the magic wand tool to get rid of the white space around it, i then positioned them to where i wanted them. For the last one i did a business card about protein shakes and i did this by googling protein and i then positioned these pictures and got rid of unnecessary white space around it by using the magic wand tool. We created these business cards by following the manual online on moodle. It gives you step by step instructions on how to make them and is very clear. For both the first and second images i used the bucket tool to fill the rectangles and googled images while using the pen and magic wand tool to get rid of unwanted white space.

Easter eggs and cool apps - Games and graphics.

In this lesson we were told to find "Easter eggs" of computer games or social media or literally anything really. Here's the link to the video i found on YouTube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOo79gv8gmo

In these first 2 screenshots you see above is a game called "Borderlands 2"where you end up getting an awesome performance from one of the character.

This game is called "Gears of war 2" and you basically go up to this cool brick and shoot it. After you've shot it a toaster magically appears and cooks toast for you which is awesome.

In this game called "Hitman 4" you have to scare the vultures off, shoot them while they're in the air and then suddenly a crazy ice cream van comes speeding out of nowhere, kills the man you supposed to kill while launching him up in the air which is quite funny.

We then had to research 5 cool apps. The first is an app called "Shazam". If you can hear a cool song that's playing that you like you can use Shazam to identify what music is playing.

"Evernote Food" helps you discover and remember the food and meals you love. From finding great new restaurants to documenting how to make your favourite dishes.

"MyScript Calculator" lets you handwrite on a piece of paper your sums and it will scan and work these sums out for you so you don't have to mess around with typing symbols in etc.

"I always got the sense that this was the land of freedom and opportunity where you can do anything." is a quote from one of the users of the app "Everest" that lets you pursue your goals in life, imagine a social media app like Facebook but for sharing your life goals with others and you can also get help to achieve those life goals from others on there.

Character design drawing - Games and Graphics

In this lesson we had to get into pairs with people we haven't really spoke too yet and I got into a pair with Beth. We then had to describe to each other our Hobbies and interests and say whether we wanted to be a Super Hero or a Villain and she chose a Villain. Here is my drawing of her

As you can see she has a lightning speed, super strength, she has a magic pencil where she can draw anything and it'll come to life so if she drew a bomb it would become a bomb. She also had magic baking skills where she can bake a super addictive cake and it'll make people super fat where they will explode and die (quite gruesome I know) then finally she has a book of knowledge where she can find out all the knowledge in the world by reading these books and she also has super jumping boots.

Super cute tutorial and snowflake tutorial

In this lesson we had to load up adobe illustrator and follow the tutorial on moodle, I ended up creating 4 different and really cool images! We learnt and applied tools called the direction selection tool, learnt how to intersect shapes, used the pathfinder tool found underneath the "window" tab, we had to create eyes and a mouth, cut and paste them then used tools like the shape tool where you can make stars, rectangles and circles etc. Here are the pictures of my work below.
For the second task we had to go onto "moodle" and load up the "snowflake tutorial" task where we then got to create our snowflakes by using shapes and tools like the line tool, pen tool and the shape tool. Afterwards we had to then make our objects into brushes, draw a pentagon and choose our customised brush tools that wed made to make those snowflake looking things on screen.
